Project Information

The Studio Sessions is a new podcast series that explores the architects studio as a site of conversation. Produced by Orla O'Kane, it takes the form of a series of recorded conversations between SheilaO’Donnell, John Tuomey and their invited guests.

The visual identity began with the question ‘how can you visualise a conversation?’ We explored how the structures of spoken exchange—initiations, responses, pauses, turn-taking, gestures, exchanges and interruptions—can be expressed in the typographic layout of film scripts and concrete poetry. This became a system based on two voices—the interviewer and interviewee—represented by two typefaces, a mono-space and a sans-serif, that converse throughout the identity.

Each episode is also given expression by an abstract graphic.Initially based on a series of woodcuts, they were further developed by hand in the studio using paper, ink, paint and craft tape along with a scanner and printer. Taken together the identity captures the dynamic exchange between host and guest—their shared passion for process, people, and ideas.
